    Bio

Jennie-May Banks is a mobile yoga teacher who aims to make yoga accessible and affordable for professional groups, organizations and individuals.

Jennie-May is a Registered Yoga Teacher, member of the Canadian Yoga Alliance, and a graduate of a well-recognized 300-hour yoga teacher training program (CYA-RYT 300). As a trauma-sensitive yoga teacher, Jennie-May graduated from Nicole Taylor’s Taylor Made Yoga teacher-training program, which specializes in trauma-sensitive yoga for soldiers and first responders.

Jennie-May’s yoga classes include Hatha Yoga, Trauma-sensitive yoga, Vinayasa flow, Restorative yoga, and Chair yoga.

Jennie-May is a Registered Social Worker, a certified Crisis Intervention Worker, and a member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). Jennie-May has worked in the Youth Justice and Child Welfare sectors since 1988, and her working knowledge of trauma is based on over 25 years of professional experience.

Jennie-May’s studies and certification in Trauma have shifted her career from working with youths to working with adults in various sectors. Her background certification in Trauma Assessment and Intervention allows her to conduct yoga classes with a working knowledge of how trauma affects the body (by creating physical holding patterns) while being careful to avoid triggers. Today, Jennie-May is particularly interested in supporting Human Services Professionals and First Responders through work-related stress and compassion fatigue.

As an active person who has played sports all her life, and at various levels of competition, Jennie-May also wants to make yoga accessible to athletes, and others seeking a healthy active lifestyle, and help them experience the many benefits of yoga.
